USA: refinery upgrade

Fluor Corp. has been awarded program management, construction management, and three major engineering and fabrication packages from BP Products North America Inc. for its USD 3 billion Canadian heavy crude refinery upgrade in Whiting, Indiana. The scope of work that Fluor has been awarded includes the overall integrated program management and construction management; plus the independent engineering, procurement, and fabrication of three major work packages, including a revamped crude distillation unit, a gas oil hydrotreater and the refinery infrastructure facilities to support the additional heavy crude oil processing. Front-end engineering design is currently under way at Fluor’s Sugar Land, Texas, office. Construction on the project is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2007, with completion by 2011.
