USA: paper upgrade

Kadant Black Clawson Inc., a subsidiary of Kadant Inc., has received an order from Inland Empire Paper Company, Spokane, Washington, for a Liquid Cyclone™ cleaner and a SansGrit™ sand and grit separator. The equipment is being installed in the existing old newspapers (ONP) de-inking system as part of the mill’s plan to increase production capacity to 250 tons per day. The Liquid Cyclone cleaner is a free vortex-type separator that efficiently removes medium- to high-density contaminants from all types of pulp slurries. The SansGrit is a dewatering machine designed to concentrate and remove sand, grit and other contaminants from secondary fiber reject streams. As part of the mill’s de-inking system, the new equipment will process ONPs to produce standard and specialty newsprint grades. Installation and start-up is scheduled for late 2004.
