Specialty Steel Industry of North America has reported that US stainless steel bar and rod import for the first 8 months was up by 12% year-on-year while import for stainless steel wire remain unchanged. The US consumed 158,500 short tons bar, a 4% up year-on-year and 43,730 short tons rod, a 1% drop from a year earlier. The consumption for wire was 55,800 short tons, a 2% drop year-on-year. Imports of stainless long and flat products in August rose by 2% to 550,870 short tons, while the consumption was 1.54 million short tons.
