US salt waste processing facility

The US Department of Energy (DOE) is planning a salt waste processing facility (SWPF) at the Savannah River Site, Aiken, South Carolina. The EPC contract for the conceptual design (phase 1) has been award to Foster Wheeler USA Corporation and Foster Wheeler Environmental Corporation, along with teaming partner BNFL Inc. (Fairfax, Virginia, USA). The contract is one of two awarded by the Department of Energy (DOE) for Phase I of the project (conceptual design). Once this is completed, DOE will select one contractor to perform phase 2, which includes remaining SWPF design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
