Upgrade at Spanish stainless mill

Aços Villares SA (Sidenor Group, Spain) will install a new Kocks/Danieli 4-pass RSB Reducing and Sizing Block as a further upgrading of its special and stainless steel bar and rod mill in Pindamonhangaba, where the new Danieli high-speed wire rod production outlet started operation in February this year. The RSB will operate as finishing block for production of quality straight bars and bar-in-coils, or for preparing the feeding size for the wire rod block. Based on 3-roll technology and provided for low-temperature finishing rolling in a near future, it will enhance plant efficiency, productivity, and product quality
RSB product range will be 17.5 to 76-mm-dia plain bars, 18 to 38-mm-dia bar-in-coils, plus the feeding sizes for producing 5.5 to 24-mm-dia wire rod at the high-speed block, in a wide range of stainless and special steel grades. RSB block operation is foreseen for the beginning of 2006. In the meantime, reports from the 100-mps, 90-tph wire rod line, confirm line’s good performance after several months of production.
Among various significant results, to be highlighted is 5.5-mm-dia austenitic stainless steel wire rod rolled at 80 mps and production of 24-mm-dia (the largest size wire rod) in carbon and alloy steel grades, finished at the 10-pass high-speed block and evenly laid onto the roller conveyor, for on-line heat treatment.
