UOP LLC, a leader in petroleum refining, gas processing, petrochemical and biofuels technologies, will open a new office in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to accommodate the growing oil and natural gas sector in Latin America. A Honeywell company, UOP LLC’s new office will employ technical experts to supply project development, engineering services and support for process technology, catalysts, adsorbents and specialty equipment from UOP as well as automation control solutions from Honeywell Process Solutions. Located in downtown in Rio de Janeiro, the office will open at the end of August 2011. The Latin America economy is expected to increase by more than 4% in 2011, which is driving an estimated 6% growth in fuel demand and 6.5% growth in petrochemicals over the next several years. The Brazilian energy sector is presently planning to add an extra 1.4 million barrels per day of refining capacity by 2019.
