United States Steel Corporation’s President and CEO, David B. Burritt announced the appointment of Barry Melnkovic as VP and CHRO. Melnkovic, who will be based at U. S. Steel’s Pittsburgh headquarters, will report to Burritt and join the company’s executive management team. He will be responsible for all facets of the company’s human resources division as well as labor relations.
Previously, Melnkovic served as executive VP and Chief Human Capital Officer for National Railroad Passenger Corporation / Amtrak. During his tenure, he developed and executed Amtrak’s human and labor relations strategies for the company’s large workforce, established an enterprise-wide lean six sigma function and developed a culture of continuous improvement. He designed and implemented short and long term incentive programs and received recognition for its innovative change and talent management practices including hiring veterans.
In October 2016, he was named the 2016 HR Executive of the Year by Human Resource Executive magazine.
