Three hydropower projects in Yunnan

The Hong Kong and Shanghai-listed Beijing Datang Power Generation Co., Ltd. (Datang), announced that it plans to invest in three hydropower projects in southwestern China’s Yunnan Province. These three projects are the Lixianjiang, Nalan and Wenshan Malutang hydropower projects. The three projects are aimed at optimizing the province’s power structure and enhance economic growth. Upon completion, Datang’s total installed capacity will increase by 736.97 MW to 6,907 MW.
The preparation, development and operation of Lixianjiang Hydropower Station will be undertaken by the Yunnan Datang Lixianjiang Hydropower Development Company Limited, jointly established by Datang and the Si Mau Area State-Owned Asset Operation Co. With registered capital of RMB 140 mln (USD 16.9 mln), Datang Power will hold a 70% stake. The Lixianjiang Project consists of three parts, the construction of the Yayangshan, Longma and Jupudu Hydropower Stations, all of which will begin by the end of 2004.
The Yunnan Datang Jin Ping Hydropower Co., a JV set up by Datang, the Jinping Power Co. and the Beijing Huake Power Engineering Technology Co., will be responsible for building and operating the RMB 860 mln (USD 103.9 mln) Nalan Hydropower Station Project. Datang will hold a 51% stake in the JV, with registered capital of RMB 172 mln (USD 20.8 mln). The project comprises of three 45 MW hydraulic-turbine generator units.
The Wenshan Malutang Power Generation Co. has been established to operate the Wenshan Malutang Project. Datang plans to invest approximately RMB 30 mln (USD 3.62 mln) in the JV, representing 22.97% of its registered capital. The project consists of the construction of two 50 MW hydraulic-turbine generator units with investment totaling RMB 415 mln (USD 50.1 mln). Construction of the project has begun in January this year.
