Thinnest high-carbon alloy tool steel strip

WISCO successfully produced high-carbon alloy tool steel strip in bulk using cast steel plate (CSP) technology with the production of the first batch of international-standard 30CrMo medium- to high-carbon alloy tool steel strip.

The 1100mm-wide steel strip has a thickness of 1.4mm, making it the thinnest hot-rolled medium- to high-carbon alloy tool steel strip.
The medium- to high-carbon alloy tool steel strips, mainly used to manufacture the measuring tools, cutting tools, impact-resistant tools, cold/hot dies and tools for specific purposes, are produced by adding alloy elements like chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, etc., into the carbon tool steel to improve the hardenability, ductility, abrasive resistance, heat resistance.

WISCO, in collaboration with Wuhan University of Science and Technology (WUST) and HeiXuanFeng Saw, had to overcome the technological problems like bleed-out, surface flaws, unstable rolling, etc., during the development of the medium to high carbon alloy tool steel strip 30CrMo. The first batch of products in the contract was produced successfully at the CSP sub-plant of general long product plant.
