Tata steel highlights innovative plating products

At the Blechexpo, Tata Steel highlighted two new cold rolled strip products from its plating business. The products include a nickel-plated stainless steel for decorative cans and covers based on its Hilan® technology and an ultra-thin expanded steel with nickel-plating. Both the products were developed in collaboration with customers in search for cost effective solutions that ensure edge protection in corrosive environments.

The new Hilan product combines an extra hard and extra bright surface resulting from the nickel-plating process with corrosion free edges thanks to the stainless steel base. This makes it an ideal material for durable decorative products. And the new ultra-thin nickel-plated expanded steel was developed in an innovative process that allows metal with thickness down to 0.1mm to be plated in a continuous roll-to-roll process. This process opens the cost and resource efficient expansion technology to other corrosion sensitive application fields such as separator sheets in batteries, electrolysers, filters or electromagnetic shielding. The company’s rolling, annealing and electroplating capabilities allow Tata Steel Plating to provide a full range of precision cold rolled steel with superior surface quality, as well as nickel, copper, brass and nickel-zinc plated substrates.
