Taiyuan Steel expands via innovation program

Taiyuan Iron and Steel Corporation (Taiyuan Steel) has completed the main portion of their technical innovation program for their high strength precision steel strip production. The No.1 rolling mill recently passed trial tests and will soon begin to supply 0.1mm stainless steel strips to the market, while the No.2 rolling mill is expected to go into production by the end of 2010. The producer’s polishing line is now undergoing tests and the slitting line has been commissioned. The cleaning mill and grinding machine are scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2010. At full production capacity, 20,000mt of high strength precision stainless steel strips in thicknesses of 0.02 to 0.50mm and widths of 3 to 650 mm will be generated. The strips are suitable for use in special sectors such as electronic, automotive, medical, petroleum, textile and aerospace. The company’s technical innovation program, for the production of high strength precision stainless steel strips launched in August 2008 with a total investment cost of USD 150 million. The first stage of the program is scheduled for completion in March 2011.
