Metso to supply huge biomass boiler

Metso will provide a 100MWe biomass boiler island and plant automation system to the Gainesville Renewable Energy Center (GREC) in Gainesville, Florida, USA. Metso's delivery represents more than 25% of the nearly USD 500 million GREC successfully raised in construction financing.

Molybdenum use reaches new heights

According to new full-year figures from the International Molybdenum Association, the global use of molybdenum has rocketed to a new high of 474 million lbs, exceeding the peak use of 470 million lbs in 2007. China had the greatest demand for molybdenum in 2010;

Suntech and Zachry win solar contract

Suntech and Zachry have received a contract from Sempra Generation to design and construct the Mesquite Solar 1 project in Arizona, USA. As per the contract, Zachry will install and integrate more than 800,000 Suntech multi-crystalline solar panels at the site. Construction of the plant will begin mid-2011 with completion set for 2013. The plant will generate 350,000MWh of electricity every year, enough to power 50,000 homes. Pacific Gas & Electric will purchase the power generated from the plant under a 150MW (AC), 20-year power purchase agreement.

Stainless sales drop in USA

An Outokumpu survey reports that the sales volume of stainless steel in the US in the first season of 2008 has dropped by 12.5% from the last quarter of 2007 due to weak demand in the global market.
