Nippon Steel is investing USD 6.05 billion to build and upgrade electric arc furnaces at three Japanese facilities to cut carbon emissions, supported by government subsidies. The project is part of Japan’s decarbonisation efforts under the Green Transformation Promotion Act, targeting full operation by FY 2028/2029.

Nippon Steel Texeng Co., Ltd a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Nisshin Koki Co., Ltd a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Steel Nisshin Co., Ltd have agreed on their business integration to be implemented in July 2020.

A new research project named Swedish Metal is being launched by Sandvik, SSAB and the University of Skövde. Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and machine learning will allow unique and comprehensive production data analyses to be made. These analyses will hopefully show new cause-and-effect relationships – which can lead to more efficient and sustainable steelmaking processes.

During the last eight months, Tenova has been awarded important contracts for a total of six Electrical Arc Furnaces (EAF) Consteel® Evolution in China.
