SS demand to increase by 9% in India
Stainless steel demand in India is expected to rise by 8% to 9% in the current fiscal year and double in the next 5 years, as more of the alloy is used to make railway coaches and buildings.
Saudi Arabia: pipeline projects
Corrtech International, based at Ahmedabad in the Gujarat State of India, has entered into a joint venture with Arabian Port Co. of Saudi Arabia for pipeline projects that will garner business of about INR 4000 crores over a period of five years.

SS plant plans dropped
Nisshin Steel Co. will not pursue a plan to manufacture stainless steel in India, because the demand for high-grade components in furniture and electronics is unlikely to grow as fast as expected there.
Indian SS makers increase capacity
Within 5 years India plans to add about 4.6 million tonnes per year of stainless steel capacity, which could make it the world’s second largest stainless producer after China. India currently produces about 2 million tonnes per year of stainless steel, more than a third of which is exported as the domestic market is yet to be developed.
Stainless consumption in India to increase
Stainless steel consumption in India will rise by at least 140,000tns over the next one year or so after the railway minister announced plans to build new freight wagons and passenger coaches from the metal.
