Sandvik Materials Technology has established a new Business Unit Oil & Gas aimed at increasing business growth in the energy sector.

By David Sear & Mark Casey Held in Cologne, Germany, on June 19 and 20, 2013, the Fourth International Separation Technology Symposium was very well received by attendees, including suppliers, equipment builders and users. The event, organised by Schmidt + Clemens, was described as a top platform by many of the managers and engineers that Stainless Steel World spoke to. They said the show was a great opportunity to see the latest developments in separation techniques, to network with peers, and also to see how new insights and materials could be of benefit to special applications. To bring you a flavour of the event, the SSW TV Team interviewed two of the organisers from Schmidt + Clemens, as well as some of the speakers and attendees. Slovenian steelmaker Acroni has commissioned a new 2.6-m X-Roll heavy-plate mill stand from SMS Innse, Italy, and a new roller-type quench supplied by Drever International, Belgium, two subsidiaries of SMS Siemag as part of modernising its heavy-plate mill. Acroni, a company of the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ), is a highly specialised niche supplier with a focus on plates and strips of stainless steel grades, tool steels, abrasion-resistant steels and HSLA grades.

SMS Mevac, Germany, will be supplying an X-eed Duplex VOD facility to Fujian Fuxin Special Steel (part of Formosa Plastics Corporation), based in Zhangzhou, China to be used in the production of austenitic and ferritic stainless steels.

In June 2013, on their 10th anniversary, Divisione Trading changed their name to “SpecialSteelStock”, which a spokesperson for the company says “better identifies who they are and what they offer, and also reflects on the huge quantity of special materials held in stock.” The company has more than 2500 tons of special steels in stock, such as Duplex 31803, Super Duplex 32750 and 32760, Austenitic XM-19 and Super Austenitic 31254 and 904L.

Outokumpu has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Sinopec Group on material development and deliveries of stainless steel.
