Alcoa enters multiyear contract with Boeing

Lightweight metals leader Alcoa has declared long-term supply contracts with Boeing valued at over USD 2.5B. Under the contract, Alcoa Fastening Systems & Rings will supply advanced titanium, stainless steel, alloy steel and nickel-based superalloy fastening systems for every Boeing platform, including the 777X—Boeing’s newest commercial airplane—the 737 MAX—scheduled for first delivery in 2017—and the 787 Dreamliner. Alcoa has also announced a second agreement under which it is the sole supplier of ready-to-install titanium seat track assemblies for all three members of the 787 Dreamliner families of airplanes.

Boeing strike affects titanium industry

Due to the fact that the aerospace industry accounts for 45% to 50% of global titanium consumption, the Boeing Co. machinists' strike, on top of an 18-month delay in shipping the 787 Dreamliner to airlines, could hurt titanium producers' profits and depress demand for the metal.
