Metal corrodes when it reacts with another substance such as oxygen, hydrogen or bacteria. Corrosion can also happen when metals are placed under too much stress causing the material to crack. Corrosion leads to deterioration of the material. BP bypass plan

The Regulatory Commission of Alaska has granted temporary permits for BP PLC to connect the east side of Prudhoe Bay field to the nearby Endicott pipeline, enabling the restart of 105,000b/d of oil production.
