ArcelorMittal is to invest over EUR 100M in the refurbishment of the coke oven batteries in Gijón. The project to refurbish and recommission the existing facilities, with an execution time of two years, will ensure compliance with the environmental requirements defined in the current integrated environmental authorisation granted for this facility and will include the implementation of the BAT, defined in BREF that will come into force in 2016. The main part of the approved investment will focus on the re-construction of two 45-oven batteries at ArcelorMittal Asturias’ coke plant in Gijón, installation of a state-of-the-art emission collection and scrubbing system, and implementation of efficient by-product management systems.

ArcelorMittal declared a USD 11.1M investment into its premier tubular facility in Monterrey, Mexico, to enhance product capabilities for the North American automotive market. The investment will be used for the construction of an additional world-class tube mill and addition of downstream value-add processing equipment, which will allow the facility to supply high-quality straight and formed tubes for use in the production of automotive seating and head rest applications.

Contractor Shetland Islands chose ArcelorMittal to supply 3,600 tonnes of sheet piles – including 3,200t of corrosion-resistant AMLoCor© – to develop the Quay’s main wall and anchor wall, following a successful smaller project at the same port two years ago.

KPA Unicon will deliver a 50t/h steam boiler plant to the Vanderbijlpark Works of ArcelorMittal South Africa. This is a turnkey delivery including all process equipment, transportation to South Africa, all installation works, commissioning and training of the operational personnel.

ArcelorMittal announced that Simon Wandke has been nominated as the executive vice president of ArcelorMittal and promoted to CEO of ArcelorMittal Mining, with immediate effect.
