ArcelorMittal’s 51% subsidiary, ArcelorMittal South Africa, has reached an agreement with Sishen Iron Ore Company (SIOC), a subsidiary of Kumba, for the long-term supply of iron ore.

The agreement, effective from 1 January 2014, allows ArcelorMittal South Africa to purchase up to 6.

ArcelorMittal Acindar is to invest USD 100M in a new rolling mill in Santa Fe province, Argentina. The rolling mill will have a capacity of 400,000t a year and will manufacture steel bars for civil construction.

The long history between ArcelorMittal and the funicular railway in Saint Hilaire du Touvet, France, continues, as the third steel rope in the railway’s history is being produced by ArcelorMittal’s site in Bourg-en-Bresse, France.

ArcelorMittal and Technip have signed a five-year contract for the supply of high-performance steel wires. This is ArcelorMittal’s most significant European contract for its wire activities. ArcelorMittal’s site in Bourg-en-Bresse, Rhônes-Alpes region, France, will fabricate highly resistant, semi-manufactured rolled products to be used on flexible sheaths for the development of deeper oil and gas fields worldwide.

The beginning of August marked an eventful period at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, as the Ukrainian plant not only celebrated its 79th anniversary, but also 2 successful years of continuous casting. The continuous casting department and facilities started operating in 2011 to fulfil the obligations undertaken as part of Kryvyi Rih’s sales and purchase agreement signed in October 2005.

ArcelorMittal will restart an expansion project at its Monlevade and Juiz de Fora sites in Brazil to increase its production capacity from 3.75Mt to 4.9Mt per year. The expansion was first announced in 2007 but paused in 2009 due to the economic crisis and weak demand.

The STX France shipyard in St Nazaire selected ArcelorMittal as the sole steel supplier for the hull and 20 bridges in the world’s biggest cruise ship. The steel and mining company has signed a contract to supply more than 40,000t of plates and coils from its European sites.
