Aker Solutions has notified employees about a workforce reduction in its Norwegian subsea business due to a continued market slowdown. About 500 permanent positions at facilities in Fornebu, Stokke, Moss and Tranby in Norway may be affected. “Activity in the Norwegian offshore services market has declined considerably over the past year as oil companies scale back spending and postpone projects,” said Per Harald Kongelf, head of Aker Solutions’ Norwegian operations.

Sandvik has achieved NORSOK® certification for its duplex and new super-duplex solid bar opening up greater application opportunities as they all meet the exacting demands and standards of the oil & gas industry. Extensive work by Sandvik has resulted in the new NORSOK® M-630, Edition 6 accreditation being secured for duplex solid bar grades Sandvik SAF 2205™ and Sandvik SAF 2507™.

Aker Solutions won its first order for a project offshore Mexico as it secured a contract from Saipem to supply umbilicals for the Pemex-operated Lakach deepwater natural-gas field.

Aker Solutions appointed David Currie as the head of its UK business to help lead the company's expansion in a key market. Currie comes from FMC Technologies, where he has held various positions since 1985, most recently as director of global subsea operations.

Aker Solutions has won a contract to supply a complete Pusnes wire mooring system for a cylindrical-shaped accommodation unit being built at Cosco Nantong Shipyard in China. The equipment includes three triple wire winches, three control cabins, nine wire fairleads, three hydraulic power units and the accompanying control system.

Aker Solutions has won a contract to deliver a deepwater drilling riser system to Atwood Oceanics, the drilling operator.

Aker Solutions has been awarded a USD 60 million contract by Statoil to deliver six subsea trees and a tools package for the operator’s Troll field off Norway.

Aker Solutions has received a contract from Statoil, to conduct the topside FEED (front-end engineering and design) study at the Mariner field on the UK continental shelf in the North Sea. The contract is valued at approximately NOK 125 million.
