Suntech to supply solar panels

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. will supply 9.43MW of solar panels and technical support for a 44MW solar power plant in Thailand. Owned by Bangchak Petroleum Public Co., Ltd, and integrated by Solartron Public Co., Ltd, this is the second phase of the plant project. Suntech was also chosen to supply 34.5MW of solar panels and technical support for the project’s first phase in August 2010. Completion is set for 2011 at which point the facility will be capable of producing decades of renewable energy. The energy will be purchased and distributed under long term power purchase contracts with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). Located in Bang Pa In, outside of Bangkok, the solar plant can decrease the need to import 40,000 tons of coal and reduce 32,000 tons of CO2 emissions. When complete, the facility will be accessible to the community as an on site visitor center featuring a Suntech building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) installation.
