Steel plant for Brazil

Brazilian steel maker Belgo Mineira plans to set up a steel plant in Corumba, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil. The unit, costing USD 140million, will operate an electric powered blast furnace with capacity for 450,000 mtpy, and will be fed by a thermal power plant to be erected by Duke Energy, using natural gas from the Bolivia – Brazil gas pipeline. Mineral ores for the project will be supplied by CVRD and Rio Tinto.
