Stamicarbon awarded contracts for two urea plants

Stamicarbon has been awarded two contracts for licensing and Process Design Packages for two new urea plants for CF Industries Holdings, Inc. Stamicarbon is the Licensing and IP Center of Maire Tecnimont S.p.A.

One plant will be built in Donaldsonville, Louisiana and the other plant in Port Neal, Iowa. Both plants will have a capacity of 3850 tons urea per day, which would make them among the biggest ever designed by Stamicarbon. Engineering and Procurement will be carried out by ThyssenKrupp Uhde.

The plants will use Stamicarbon’s Urea2000Plus™ technology, which features Stamicarbon’s unique Pool condenser and the complete synthesis section in Safurex® stainless steel. The Donaldsonville project is expected to start-up in 2015 and Port Neal’s start-up is planned for 2016.

Including the two new plants, CF Industries uses Stamicarbon’s urea technology in eight of its plants in the USA and Canada.
