With a long tradition in metal-working, Spain has become a significant market for all kinds of industrial and engineering activities. Moreover, it is a key hub, serving Spanish-speaking countries and organisations around the globe. Recognising this central role, Stainless Steel World is a familiar visitor to many of the metals suppliers and engineering companies in Spain. On a recent trip, for example, Paula Cuervo Calvo and Vera Solis Esquivel traveled to the capital, Madrid, to gauge the mood in this important market. The experts they met report that the Spanish steel industry is progressing well. For example, in a single month – March 2010 – steel production in Spain accelerated by almost a fifth. In real terms, the total output of crude steel leaving Spanish factories rose to 1.6 million tons. But it is not just crude steel where companies are positive about the future. Tradinox for example sees excellent opportunities for corrosion resistant alloys as well. Welcoming Stainless Steel World to the Tradinox offices in Fuenlabrada, Mr José Carretero Gómez (on photo, together with Vera Solis Esquivel ) pointed out that Tradinox has been official distributors for Sandvik Materials Technology for many regions in Spain since 1995. Mr Carretero Gómez noted that important future projects would include the introduction of a number of grades of stainless steels, duplex and special alloys. Already planning more fact-finding missions, Stainless Steel World is in regular contact with CRA suppliers located in Spain and further afield. If you wish to communicate directly with Spanish-speaking companies, you are most welcome to join the LinkedIn Group, or to subscribe to a dedicated Newsletter.
