Stainless paint pumps

Jotun Paints Europe, a manufacturer and supplier of marine coatings to the world’s merchant fleets, has installed three transfer pumps from Netzsch Pumps. Jotun’s marine coatings are used by thousands of vessels around the world, from the smallest fishing boats to the largest military and commercial vessels, ferries and tankers – including a recently awarded contract to supply exterior paints and coatings to Cunard Lines for the Queen Mary II, the world’s longest and widest passenger vessel. The SY pumps are being used to transfer Jotamastic 87 Aluminium marine paint, a very thixotropic brand containing up to 90% solids, from the mixing tanks to holding tanks. All three transfer pumps were manufactured in stainless steel and supplied with Viton reduced wall stators, pressure switches, dry-run STPD for Ex areas and special coupling rods to stop paint settling out.
Commenting on the installation, Paul Horton of Jotun says: “The new pumps, which are transferring paints at flows up to 15m3/h at 55C, have reduced pumping times by 50%, helping us to significantly increase output”.
