Stainless metro cars

Alstom has signed a contract of around EUR 180 million to supply 96 new cars for Line 2 of the São Paulo Metro. The project is a continuation of a contract originally signed for the supply of 132 cars, of which 66 were supplied in the 1990s and which currently circulate on the Line 2. The stainless steel metro cars will be air conditioned and equipped with cameras and smoke detectors. They will also have illuminated panels indicating the stations, as well as a dynamic line map showing the next stop. The first and last cars in each train will have larger seats, an entrance for wheelchair users and an illuminated door closing system for those who have impaired hearing. The start of the production of the new cars (66 + 30 additional ones) is planned for mid-2007 with delivery of the fleet in 30 months.
