SMS Concast to deliver EAF to Republic Steel

SMS Concast AG received an order to deliver a 150-t EAF (Electric Arc Furnace) and process equipment from the US company Republic Steel. The EAF will be installed in Lorain, OH.

Republic Steel President and CEO Mr. Jaime Vigil said “This expansion will help us maintain our position as the industry leader in the manufacturing of SBQ. The additional capacity from the new furnace will allow us more flexibility and efficiency in delivering the highly engineered products our customers require.”

The new electric arc furnace will increase the company’s annual liquid steel production by 1.2 million tons. It has a 150-short ton heating volume, a 120/135-MVA furnace transformer as well as eccentric
bottom tapping and oxy-fuel burners. The new furnace will feed Republic Steel´s bloom and billet casters for the production of 7.5 to 165mm diameter SBQ flat steel and bar coil, and 152, 280, 305 and 355 mm diameter seamless tube rounds.
