Shell Global Solutions International B.V. (Shell Global Solutions) has entered into an agreement with the South Refineries Company of Iraq, for the provision of technology licenses to a refinery in Basrah, Southern Iraq. As per the agreement, Shell Global Solutions will provide a license for a sulphur recovery unit and visbreaker unit; together with the refinery expansion, these technologies will help to optimize operations at the Basra refinery, significantly increasing capacity. The sulphur recovery unit has the potential to enable the refinery to meet and exceed world standards for emissions; the visbreaking unit will help increase overall upgrading, constructing a future proof solution for years to come. The Shell technology is expected to front the revamp of the Basra refinery.
