Shell Chemicals appoints VP

Tan Ek Kia, currently Chair of the Shell Companies in North East Asia, will join the Chemicals Executive Committee as Executive Vice-President Procurement and Business Units, based in Singapore. He succeeds Rein Willems, who is returning to The Netherlands to take on the position of President-Director of Shell Nederland BV. These roles become effective from 17 October 2003. Tan Ek Kia’s career with Shell has spanned 30 years, and he has been based in
Malaysia, Brunei, the USA, The Netherlands and China. His first role on joining Shell was engineering design, construction and start up of offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities. Subsequent responsibilities have included project management, HSE management, liaison and appraisal activities on business performance and investment decisions. He took up operations management in Shell’s Exploration and Production companies in Malaysia and in 1994, became Managing Director, the first Malaysian to do so. In 1997, he was appointed Managing Director of Shell Nanhai Limited and in 2000, he took on the role of Country Chair for Shell Companies
in North East Asia based in Beijing.
