Shanxi to expand power capacity

Shanxi Province, China’s largest coal-producing province, plans to invest RMB 30 billion to expand its power generation capacity in order to transmit the surplus to the power-thirsty north China and Shandong Province. According plans for the West-East Power Transmission Project laid out in government’s Tenth 5-Year Plan, Shanxi and Shaanxi Provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region will increase their power generation capacities by a combined 5.8 mln kW. Of that, 4.6 mln kW will be developed in Shanxi, Zhongguo Jingji Daobao reported. Water-saving and desulphurising facilities will be installed in the planned power plants planned to address environmental concerns in the heavily polluted Shanxi Province.
