Saudi Arabia: power plant

Dhuruma Electricity Co. has appointed Mott MacDonald as Owner’s Engineer for a USD 1.6 billion power plant in Saudi Arabia. Located 125km from Riyadh in Riyadh Central Province, the power plant is being constructed to meet the rising future demand for electricity in Saudi Arabia and facilitate the continued growth of the country. The Riyadh PP11 power plant is expected to produce around 1700MW of electricity and will be Saudi Arabia’s largest combined cycle-gas-fired power station. The project also involves the construction of a 380kv gas insulated substation for the export of the power to the Saudi National Grid. Mott MacDonald’s project team is to carry out a review of the engineering, procurement and construction contractor’s design. This will then be followed by on site supervision of the construction, erection and commissioning of the power plant and the associated 380 kilovolt switchyard. The project is due for completion in 2013.
