Sandvik Xmas tree of light

Sandvik‘s 50ft Tree of Light has been accepted by Lord Mayor Chauhdry Rashid and Lady Mayoress Shafait Begum Rashid on behalf of the ciy of Halesowen, Sweden. The traditional gift has been donated by the Halesowen-based Swedish engineering company for more than 50 years and it will now take pride of place in Victoria Square. More than 16,000 tiny LED lights have been used to decorate the tree with the special energy saving technology used as part of the city’s drive to be environmentally friendly. Lights can be sponsored from GBP 5 each and all proceeds will support the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal. This year the Lord Mayor’s charities to benefit are the Al-Hijrah Trust UK, Birmingham Arthritis Resource Centre, Birmingham Ethnic Education Advisory Service, Kidney Disease and the SLE Research Fund at the Q E Hospital, Local Access Centre, Washwood Heath and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
