Sandvik Loniflex(tm)

Sandvik Materials Technology has developed Sandvik Loniflex(tm) a new, high quality, low nickel austenitic stainless steel for spring wire applications. The new grade has the same tensile strength as AISI 302, EN 1.4310, but uses less than half the amount of nickel. Sandvik Loniflex(tm) is tailor made for wire and spring applications. It overcomes problems such as cracks and breakages by reducing the carbon and manganese content and keeping the martensite at a low and controlled level to enhance the material’s workability. Increasing the chromium gives a higher PRE value, improving the corrosion resistance of the material. The Pitting Resistance Equivalent (PRE value) is calculated from the chemical composition of the steel. The material is suitable for use on a wide range of spring applications in consumer and industrial products, such as aerosols, pharmaceutical products, inhalers and automotive products for round spring wire. While in the flat wire form it can be used in the textile industry and in lighters. Sandvik Loniflex(tm) spring wire is available in coated, bright, polished, degreased or Nicoat finish and as flat wire in either cold rolled or annealed condition. Normal size ranges are valid for both round and flat wire. The material can be supplied in coils, spools, compact coils or straightened lengths to best suit customers’ individual requirements.
