Sandvik Materials Technology has expanded its manufacturing and stock programme for enhanced machinability stainless steel hollow bar to include sizes up to 420mm outside diameter. It means that Sandvik now has a range of over 100 different hollow bar sizes, many of which can be supplied from stock. The new sizes have all the improved machinability benefits of the Sanmac family of stainless steels without jeopardising key properties such as corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. They are aimed particularly at producers of mechanical components used in the manufacture of valves, pumps, flow meters, fittings, flanges and mechanical seals for the process industries. Previously available in a size range from 30mm up to 250mm outside diameter, the new extended range has 6 new sizes from 300mm OD x 200mm ID up to 420 OD x 300mm ID in lengths from 3.5 to 5 metres, produced in stainless steel grades Sanmac 304L and Sanmac 316L and available from stock. All hollow bar sizes can be supplied cut to length if required. The Sanmac family of stainless machining steels, produced in co-operation with sister company Sandvik Coroman, are designed to reduce machine tool wear, increase cutting speeds, improve productivity and obtain significant cost reductions.
