Sandvik Asia Ltd has bagged a contract worth INR 56.5 crore from Chettinad International Coal Terminal Private Ltd for design, supply, erection and commissioning of 2 ship unloaders. Sandvik will design, supply, erect and commission 2 grab type gantry ship unloaders. The unloaders, with an outreach of 30m and track gauge of 20m, will each be capable of unloading coal at the rate of 1750tph from ships up to 80,000DWT. The machines are scheduled for commissioning by February 2009. Chettinad International Coal Terminal Private Ltd is setting up a terminal at the Ennore Port near Chennai on build, operate and transfer basis for handling 8 million tonnes per year of thermal coal imported for power plants operating near Chennai. The terminal will include a jetty with ship unloading facilities, a stockyard system and related conveyor systems.
