Samsung Engineering, the engineering, procurement, construction and project management (EPC&PM) companies, recently announced that it signed a USD 500M range contract with Long Son Petrochemicals Co., Ltd. (LSP), a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals, for a Polyolefins project in Vietnam at an official signing ceremony at the SCG Chemicals headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. The project is located in the Long Son Island, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 30km north of Vung Tau City and 70km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The contract was signed by LSP’s General Director Thammasak Sethaudom and Samsung Engineering’s President & CEO Sungan Choi.
Samsung Engineering will deliver a High-density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at 450 Kilo-Tonnes Per Annum (KTPA) capacity and a Polypropylene (PP) plant with the capacity of 400 KTPA. The HDPE plant, which is the package B and PP plant, which is the package C are part of the first petrochemical complex in Vietnam to be operated by LSP. The HDPE and the PP plants are scheduled to be completed by end of 2022.
The scope of work comprises of process unit including Reactor, Extruder, Bagging Machine as well as the work for the Utilities and Offsites (U&O) which contains Substation and Cooling Tower.
The LSP HDPE and PP plants will be the 15th project Samsung Engineering will execute in Vietnam. Samsung previously built several hydrocarbon plants in Vietnam such as a fertilizer, PVC and Gas Production plant.
