The Russian state-owned firm Rosatom has reached an agreement with the Slovakian government to start negotiations for building a new nuclear power plant in Slovakia.
If a deal is agreed upon, Rosatom would take over the east- European project known as JESS from the Czech firm CEZ. CEZ is reportedly scaling back their international business to focus more on the domestic market. The Slovak state-owned nuclear firm Javys owns the remaining 51% stake in JESS.
According to Reuters, Rosatom is demanding a price guarantee in the negotiations to reduce the risk of increasingly expensive nuclear build—a now common demand of nuclear plant builders. The first results of the negotiations are expected in June.
