Renishaw is partnering on DECSAM, a £38 million UK programme led by Airbus to industrialise laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF), aiming to reduce costs, increase productivity, and enhance sustainability. The 11-partner consortium includes OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, SMEs, RTOs, and academic institutions, and will deliver demonstrator parts, in-process quality assurance, digital thread integration, and factory scale-up toward certification.
Running from July 2024 to June 2028 under the ATI Programme, Renishaw will focus on developing processes and parameters for high-temperature materials, improving process control through modelling and simulation, extending powder life to boost feedstock sustainability, and enhancing productivity and automation using RenAM 500 systems. The initiative will support the translation of R&D into certifiable solutions for next-generation airframe and engine platforms.
