Refurbished presses run progressive tooling

To replace its ageing C frame presses, a Cumbrian, UK, press shop has invested in three fully re-furbished presses that now enable it to run complicated progressive tooling with full confidence. Waite turned to SMV Presses (UK), a power press and ancillary equipment manufacturer, when they wanted to improve their production capacity and product quality. Over the last few years the company has invested in two 1250kN SMV model FCP1250 four column mechanical presses and one 800kN model FCP 800 complete with press feeding equipment. As Russell Waite, Managing Director said: “They have become the workhorses of our production. SMV offered us fully re-furbished presses to meet our requirements at competitive prices, which now enable us to run complicated progressive tooling with full confidence. Many jobs requiring secondary operations have been retooled on progression dies. The rigid cast iron frame of the SMV presses is also much quieter than a fabricated press, which makes for a better working environment.â€? The three presses were all re-furbished at SMV Presses’ parent company in Sweden. They were completely re-engineered and equipped to comply with the latest current European Safety Regulations. The maximum press force can be reached at 30deg before bottom dead centre. The last press to be installed was an FCP 1250-2 with an infinitely variable operating speed ranging from 0 – 120spm. It was supplied as a complete press line with a servo roll feeder, a double sided 1500kg decoiler, a 450mm x 25mm coil strip straightener and a PS323 scrap chopper for cutting coil strip into accurate blank sizes.
