POSCO signs MOU to develop titanium industry

POSCO has recently signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with North Gyeongsang province and Pohang city to develop the titanium industry in South Korea. The signing ceremony of the MOU was held by POSCO at the Pohang city hall. Under the contract, the parties will cooperate in the research and development of titanium technology and in the discovery of promising titanium materials and parts companies. They also aim to bring in more competent companies by building titanium industry clusters.

POSCO will open the “Center for the Commercialization of Titanium Technologyâ€?, which will be responsible for developing titanium alloy technology, supported by its affiliated research center RIST (the Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology). The center will also lead the supply of titanium alloy for aircraft in cooperation with its overseas partners. The choice of the titanium industry will be strategic for the North Gyeongsang province. Pohang city will create titanium industry clusters within the “Pohang Bluevalley National Industrial Complexâ€? to bring in domestic titanium material firms, parts companies and research institutes.
