POSCO was selected as the world’s most competitive steelmaker this year. The World Steel Dynamics (WSD), an information service provider that analyses the global steel market, held the thirtieth Steel Success Strategies (SSS) forum in June, and announced the results of World-Class Steelmaker Rankings. This WSD announcement clearly distinguished POSCO as being the world’s No.1 steelmaker eight consecutive times over the past six years.
WSD evaluated 23 aspects from 36 of the world’s steelmakers, including production capacity, profitability, technological innovation, pricing power, cost reduction, financial stability and acquisition of raw materials, as of June 2015.
With their focus on enhancing fundamental competitiveness of steel, including sales growth of high value-added world-premium products and solution marketing based on technology, POSCO acquired an average of 7.97 points with 10 points in technological innovation and human resources, which were the highest score, and maintained their No.1 ranking.
Following POSCO was Nucor of the US in the second position, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal of Japan in the third position, followed by Gerdau of Brazil and Severstal of Russia in the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
