Panametrics (Waltham, MA, USA) has introduced a portable ultrasonic scanning system. The NDT FreeScanner offers customers the power of encoded C-Scan imaging in a hand-activated compact unit. The five correlated axes of the scanner allow the operator to freely move the transducer holder in virtually any position within the circular range of the arm. A series of optical encoders inside the arm joints accurately tracks the spatial position of the transducer to provide fully encoded planar C-Scans on flat or contoured surfaces.
The NDT FreeScanner system can be configured with the Panametrics EPOCH 4 digital flaw detector and a laptop computer for portability, or with a Panametrics Pulser/Receiver and integrated data acquisition PC for laboratory bench work. All NDT FreeScanner systems utilise Panametrics’ new ScanView Plus imaging software that combines motion and instrument control with real-time data acquisition to provide unsurpassed ultrasonic imaging capabilities. Innovative operating features easily sequence users through complex scan set-ups. ScanView Plus also offers many-advanced evaluation features such as cluster analysis, edge effect utilities, FFT spectrum analysis, locate and measure tools, 3-D isoplots, and many more.
