Polypropylene unit in New Jersey

Phillips Petroleum Company is planning to start up a new polypropylene (PP) unit possibly by June of this year at its refinery in Linden, New Jersey, USA. Construction for the new USD 100 million unit began in 1999 and is being carried out by Kvaerner (Bridgewater, NJ) under an engineering, procurement, and construction management contract. The unit will use UNIPOL technology, which Dow acquired last year in its purchase of Union Carbide. The project was originally scheduled for completion and commissioning in the spring of 2001 but many project delays and a soft PP market have contributed to its delayed start-up.
