Petrobras opens rig bids

Brazil’s state energy giant Petrobras has opened licensing for contracts to build a new 180,000 bpd offshore oil rig, which should start in 2007. The P-53 platform will be installed on the Marlim Leste oil field off the Rio de Janeiro state coast, Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) said in a statement. The rig also will be capable of producing 6 million cubic meters (212 million cubic feet) of natural gas per day.
