Elgiloy Specialty Metals has purchased a Millcheck rolling mill shape performance audit from Industrial Automation Services (IAS) for the single-stand reversing cold mill at its facility in Hampshire, Illinois. The Millcheck audit is a systematic approach to the practice of rolling mill shape performance auditing. The audit set the benchmark of current mill performance and evaluated the potential impact of upgraded instrumentation, actuators and controls. The audit also provided diagnosis and correction of specific flatness problems. A one-week site visit was conducted in April with minimal interruption to production. During this time, significant opportunities for improvements were identified. Partial implementation of these recommendations has reduced strip breaks and impacted shape performance.
