Outokumpu Chief Technology Officer Pekka Erkkilä has stepped down from Outokumpu Leadership Team as of February 2, 2017. However, he will continue to support the company in select key areas, and represent Outokumpu’s interest in, for example, Fennovoima and the Association of Finnish Steel and Metal Producers.
Pekka Erkkilä said when he joined Outokumpu, the Tornio mill was a brand new mill with just 5% of its current melting capacity, and was competing against twenty players in Europe. Today, Outokumpu is the undisputed leader in Europe, with a strong position in the Americas, and it is on a solid track to become the best value creator in the industry. He, along with his team has played a key role in making it one of the most profitable companies in the domain.
