North Sea gas field found

France-based GDF Suez announced that it discovered a large gas field in the Dutch North Sea on 2 September. The gas discovery was made at a depth of 5450m in an area approximately 100km north of Den Helder. The field produced 1.2 million cum of gas per day during the test phase. The exact content is not yet known, but GDF Suez believes there is plenty of gas to justify commercial development of the field. According to the company, commercial development depends on the gas price, productivity, distance to existing infrastructure and the cost of new infrastructure.
