New polishing technology

Professional Polishing Services (UK) has introduced a new “marbling” machine at its Smethwick works. The decision was taken in response to customers’ requests for the company to introduce “circle” polishing or “engine turning” into the range of sheet finishes available. The new machine is unique in the UK in having a capacity to process sheets up to 6 metres x 2 meters as standard. Traditional “circle” finish with a nominal 50% overlap will be offered together with the semicircular “fan” effect with 75% overlap. However, the design of this new technology machine means that a wide range of finishes can be created and PPS can work with customers to develop unique designs on 2A, 2B or polished sheet from 0.7mm to 3mm thick. A combination of grinding heads means that standard width materials of 1000mm, 1250mm, 1500mm and 2000mm can be produced with only a change of plc setting. Non-standard widths can be produced by the addition or subtraction of grinding heads with minor mechanical adjustments.
