New grade added to Sanmac hollow bar range

A new grade of Sanmac hollow bar has been added to Sandvik Steel’s range of improved machinability stainless steels. Designated Sanmac 303, the new stainless steel hollow bar has been machined in trials at speeds 40% higher than AISI 303 solid bar from competing mills. The new grade is ideal for applications where high machining speeds are needed and where strength and/or corrosion resistance are not so important. An application has already been found in reels for fibre optic cables. Sanmac 303 hollow bar is available in Sandvik’s full size range from 32 mm up to 250 mm outside diameter. A key feature of the supply of Sanmac hollow bar is Sandvik Steel’s production and distribution capability. Production is located centrally at Sandvik’s manufacturing plant in Sweden. This enables close control and monitoring of material properties from melt to melt and guarantees consistent machining quality from batch to batch. There is a fully automated central warehouse supported by distribution centres and regional stocks world-wide.
