Within the near future Indian Railways will introduce newly designed coaches, which will accommodate more people. The stainless steel coaches, being produced by Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala are based on German technology and have inherent design features such as superior aesthetics. A senior railways Ministry official said that besides increasing the sitting capacity, manufacturing cost of the new stainless steel coaches will also be less. The trials of this prototype have been completed successfully and now it has been planned to manufacture 100 such coaches besides 150 original German design stainless steel coaches during 2008-09. The official also said that the Railways is also considering switching over the entire production to this new type of coaches in the near future.
